School Notes
- Founded in 1907 by educator Mary Lockey, Castilleja is the only non-sectarian all-girls middle and high school in the San Francisco Bay Area. More than 100 years since its founding, Castilleja remains true to its mission to give each young woman an "educated heart." Castilleja also remains true to the 5 C's - conscience, courtesy, character, courage, and charity - which set the standard for a responsible and inclusive community.
- Castilleja's pedagogical approach is shaped both by tradition and current research that affirm the significant personal and intellectual advantages of all-girls education. While emphasis is placed on academic development, Castilleja is just as committed to educating the whole person and to developing commpassionate and contributing global citizens.
- The pursuit of our motto, "Women Learning, Women Leading," has led us to infuse our curriculum and progams with relevant, real-world experiences, which develop in each student the skills and self-confidence to reach her full potential. With the support of our extraordinary faculty and staff, we are dedicated to excellence in educating young women to lead in a changing world.
