Montessori Academy Of Glen Ellyn was founded in 1961 and was the first Montessori school in DuPage County.
The school has grown from one class for 3-6 year old to a Montessori community serving families with Toddlers, Pre-Primary, Extended Day, Full Day and Elementary programs through sixth grade.
Dr. Maria Montessori believed that a truly educated individual continues learning long after formal education because this person is motivated from within by a natural curiosity and love for knowledge.
She felt that the goal of education should not be to fill the child with facts, but rather to cultivate the childs own natural desire to learn.
Guided by Maria Montessoris philosophy of respect for each individual child, we have designed our school to meet the spiritual, social, physical and academic needs of each student enrolled.
The meticulously prepared environment is designed to direct the child toward positive, constructive and joyous work.
Every child is encouraged to explore the indoor as well as the outdoor environment at their own pace while respecting the needs of self, others and the materials that serve all the students.
Our Elementary Education program balances the child's developing imagination and power of abstraction with concrete hands on materials.
The children work together following individual and small group interests, doing research, planning projects, completing and then presenting these projects to others.
Classroom materials have a structured sequence of progression, leading to the joys of discovery and understanding.
