School Notes
A SUDBURY SCHOOL IS LIKE...A SMALL CITY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE:
What's So Special about a Sudbury School? The success of Sudbury Schools over the past 50 years throughout the U.S. and the world has been shown through its highly successful graduates. Graduates successfully enroll in universities (yes, without traditional transcripts) and become successful business people who show real initiative.
How is this accomplished? Doesn't my child need the academic "core curriculum" and a bunch of AP classes to succeed? Don't they have to be constantly assessed and directed?
Sudbury Schools offer distinct advantages to young people (and their families):
- JUDICIAL SYSTEM LED BY ELECTED STUDENTS AND JURY OF PEERS
- WEEKLY DEMOCRATIC TOWN HALL MEETINGS
- LAWS AND POLICIES PROPOSED AND UPHELD BY ALL MEMBERS
- MEANINGFUL WORK BASED ON INDIVIDUAL INTERESTS
- FREEDOM WITH RESPONSIBILITY

Sudbury Schools offer distinct advantages to young people (and their families):
- Daily decision making: Real freedom with responsibility is a unique opportunity (especially for young people today) to practice personal direction and effective interpersonal interaction - the personal and interpersonal skills needed to become a successful adult - skills that require much more practice than long division.
- Integrated Curriculum: learning happens all the time, integrated into daily choices that are defined and explored by individual students, based on interest and meaning. No adult-designed or determined classwork, homework, or tests. Reading, mathematical reasoning, and critical thinking are learned "on the job" contextually, experientially, and painlessly.
- The Long View: prevent educational burn out and preserve your young person's natural instinct to learn and explore. While it doesn't "look" like traditional learning, it's exactly the learning that will launch them into the future academically, professionally, and personally.
