The Miami Valley School

As a parent of a graduate and a current student I can say that MVS has been the right choice for my family. The base curriculum is strong and the opportunity and support for those that want to explore outside of the standard academic areas is wonderful. I am happy with the experience provided to my children.

We are the parents of a 2024 graduate and a current 4th grader. We have experience with public school and homeschooling, and have chosen MVS because we like the small community feel, the beautiful campus, and the immersion method that is built into all aspects of their curriculum. We feel like we can draw a straight line from our son''s robotics experience and the mentors he had to his current success as a Purdue Electrical and Engineering student on full scholarship. The college counseling experience was exceptional. Our daughter has already had hallmark experiences through choir, sports, theatre, and immersion. We''ve made life-long friends and really feel at home at MVS. Sports at the school have historically struggled because of the small size, but they are putting some good things in place now and we are excited to see those programs grow. No school is perfect, but MVS is a really special place, both rigorous and welcoming.

I am a current Upper School student at The Miami Valley School, and I have discovered that I am in a place where students are taught to be independent thinkers and to value their education. My teachers are not only passionate about their subject, but eager to teach their students. There are many clubs offered here, such as JustWrite, Model United Nations, Math Competitions Club, Black Student Union, and even UNO Club, and they are all catered to the students' interests and desires for learning. Students even have the opportunity to start their own clubs. Another standout part of MVS is the Immersion term, where students spend all of January diving deeply into a topic or field of study and going on trips around the United States and around the world to help them learn more about one of the topics offered to them. Upperclassmen are given the opportunity to create their own Immersion. Immersions have helped me grow as a person and have given me chances to practice real-world scenarios that will prepare me for the future. Overall, the Miami Valley School is a great place for becoming a better learner and a better person, and I believe I have grown in both of these areas because of my time here.

As a current sophomore at The Miami Valley School, I feel happy and hopeful about how prepared I am for future years of continued education, and I feel especially ready for college. Boasting now a full-time college counselor, I feel confident that wherever in the nation, or out, I aspire to be a student in the future, I will be welcomed with open arms. As for MVS, I love the community, classes, and overall school. But as the most outstanding part of the school, I have to cite the community. The parent involvement, friend groups, clubs, and classes are all so welcoming and supportive. I think our school's slogan, "Students don't just come to The Miami Valley School. Here, they become," really sums it up quite well. MVS offers a program that supports the holistic child, truly. And the Immersion program! Although prospective families may be hesitant to take all of this from a 15-year-old, I urge you to take the chance and just try it out. MVS won't disappoint! Thank you!

My daughter always has something good to say about her day at school—I feel like we are learning new things right along with her! We have had great experiences with teachers and staff members. Very hands-on curriculum with lots of projects—I love visiting the school to see the kids sharing their work when they have presentation days!

Our child joined the Miami Valley School in 9th grade. The onboarding process for our child and for us as parents was extremely smooth with ample communication at every step. The teachers are excellent. They care for the students and their learning. The environment is bright, modern, and safe. Administration is perfect. We could not ask for more from a college preparatory school.

I became a better thinker, speaker, and writer thanks to MVS. As a graduate, I appreciate how the school's diverse community prepared me for success...you really are surrounded by incredible people at MVS, and my relationships with my classmates and faculty were some of the best parts of my school experience.

MVS prepared me for college and life in numerous ways, not least because of the opportunities I had during Immersion. Teachers care about their students and go out of their way to help, and they have such interesting lives and backstories. MVS gave me the ability to be self-sufficient, advocate for myself with professors in college, and feel comfortable speaking and writing at the college level. Truly a unique school environment.

We are delighted to have discovered VMS as an option to start our son in kindergarten. What a unique community! This school practices what they preach-they have core sets of values like celebration and integrity, which they bake into their schedule and activities. My son, even in kindergarten, feels seen and included with the entire school. They have weekly assemblies and immersion programming that combines grade levels. These give ample opportunities to celebrate individuals in a big way and cater to each student's strengths. The teachers and administrators all appear to care deeply and sincerely for the students.
