Lee Academy For Gifted Education

Lee Academy has patterned its approach to education after Dr.
Barbara Clark's Integrative Education Model. We incorporated key components of that model in the development of our program.
We strive to give equal importance to four human functions - thinking/cognitive, feeling/emotional, physical/sensing and the intuitive.
These functions cannot reach their optimum levels separately, but only when each is integrated into the whole.
This 'holistic' view reflects thinkers from the past and current researchers, who have found evidence of the interactive nature of reality.
Our philosophy is based upon creating a responsive learning environment, relaxation and tension reduction, movement, empowering language, choice and perceived control, complex and challenging cognitive activity, intuition and integration and conclusion.

An excellent school for Gifted students, which provides individualized education in a quiet, calm and beautiful lakeside campus. The focus at the school is on student specific education, where the teachers and administrators care deeply about meeting the goals of students first. The teachers are patient, accommodating, challenging and smart. This is not a curriculum where students do 1000 hours of rote, random academic drills and call that ''subject mastery.'' This is a school for students who are actually Gifted and seek to receive individualized instruction to harness those talents, and develop in areas for further growth.

After more than 15 years teaching in public schools, I took a position last year at Lee Academy teaching science. I love the way Lee encourages critical and creative thinking and supports student focused instruction. Students are not just memorizing facts, they are exploring, questioning, getting messy - focused on understanding rather than racing through test prep and computerized instruction. I have the opportunity to bring depth to my curriculum and the time and support to bring in lots of the hands-on labs that make learning science (and teaching it) so much fun. I think one of the strongest recommendations for the school is how many of the teachers have enrolled their own kids. That says everything. My daughter is happy and challenged and we both feel we have found a haven here at Lee. And I love the trees!
