Randolph-Macon Academy (R-MA) is a coeducational college preparatory school for boarding and day students in grades 6-12. The Academy combines a first-class college-prep program with an Air Force Junior ROTC program, making it "more than a prep school." One alumnus said, "R-MA takes good students and makes them great leaders." Founded in 1892 and affiliated with the United Methodist Church, the school is situated on a 135-acre campus overlooking Front Royal, Virginia. The Air Force program encompasses grades 9-12 and the postgraduate program, and teaches leadership and citizenship. The middle school provides an interactive, structured community, with a separate campus and uniform. R-MA features a safe, positive environment for spiritual, intellectual, athletic, and character development. "R-MA focuses on the whole child," said one parent, who has three children attending the school. "It's not all about academics. It's sports, leadership, mentoring. My children are getting a well-rounded education here." R-MA students achieve their academic potential through classes averaging 12-15 students, tutorial times with teachers, mentoring groups, and supervised study halls. Graduating classes have averaged more than $5 million in college merit-based scholarships; in 2013 the graduates eclipsed this mark with over $7.3 million in scholarships offered. R-MA's college acceptances in 2010-2013 included:
- University of Virginia
- Virginia Tech
- Penn State
- George Mason University
- William & Mary
...and many, many others. However, the focus of R-MA is not to get a student into the best college in the world, but to get each student into the college or university that is the best fit for him or her personally. Students participate in annual science fairs, public speaking contests, Virginia Mathematics League contests, and National Geographic Bee. They enjoy field trips to various museums, Civil War sites, and other locations. R-MA offers students an array of extracurricular activities. The band and chorus performed for the National Rifle Association's national convention in 2010 in Charlotte, NC, 2011 in Pittsburgh, PA, and 2012 in St. Louis, MO. The marching band has also performed in Michigan, Ohio, Florida, and in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City. Students in R-MA's flight program can solo in a Cessna 172, and even earn their private pilot's certification. Students may also participate in 20 varsity sports, drama, journalism, color guard and drill teams, and the community service club.

I have had the joy of serving this great Academy for over 16 years in a variety of roles. As the current Director of Student Life, Head Swim Team Coach, Middle School Interact Coordinator and Public Address Announcer for our home Football Games, the growth that I have been priviledged to be part of here at Randolph-Macon Academy (R-MA) in bearing witness to the success of so many young people has been the most humbling honour of my personal and professional llife. The ability of "every" student to be part of a Varsity Sport at R-MA, as well as enjoy our small class sizes, state of the art classroom technology, STEM Masters Programme, individualised attention and extensive AP (Dual Enrollment) programmes, truly makes us an attractive resource for families seeking to offer their children a priceless "head start" towards a successful life at the University level and in life.
