School Notes

  • Saint Ursula Academy (SUA) is a school of contrasts: it was founded in 1910, yet it`s the first area high school to partner with UC`s School of Information Technology to offer classes in such tech topics as app development, JavaScript programming and web design. It`s located in the heart of the city, yet its nearly 10-acre campus maintains a pastoral feel. And it has a regional reputation for offering the highest quality college preparatory education while also offering the award-winning Educational Services Program for students with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, ADHD, etc. to give them tools to succeed in Saint Ursula`s rigorous curricula. SUA, located at 1339 East McMillan Street in Cincinnati, is the premiere private girls` school in Greater Cincinnati, drawing students from 90+ grade schools in three states. They are drawn by the school`s reputation and track record in nurturing the academic, spiritual and social needs of its current 675 students.    According to Jill Grever Cahill, Vice President of Communications (and an SUA alum), "Saint Ursula Academy offers four-year Fine Arts programs for students interested in these fields for possible future careers. Plus we have exceptional course offerings in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Design, and Math (STEAM.) "With a student- teacher ratio of 12:1, SUA students are assured of getting personalized attention that they might not get at a bigger school," Cahill added.  In addition to its academic programs, SUA holds many other distinctions, including: SUA is an 11 year winner of the prestigious Harold A. Meyer Award for Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity, awarded for the demonstration of good sportsmanship and ethics by student athletes, coaches, parents and the entire school community by the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA.) In the past decade, the St. Ursula Academy Vocal Ensemble (SUAVE) and the Orchestra (SUASO) have won 27 First Place trophies collectively in national competitions.   And providing service is just as important as academics; the entire SUA student population participates in an annual food drive each year, which supports several area families and food pantries."Our graduates are proof of the program`s success," said Cahill. "100 percent go on to college and between 85-95 percent receive college scholarship offers each year. Saint Ursula is also proud of multiple National Merit-recognized students every year." For those seeking an educational experience instead of just a school, Saint Ursula is committed to academic excellence, character building and service rooted in Catholic values. For more information, visit saintursula.org.
