This school is a gem! The directress is always kind to the children and has earned the love and respect of the children in her class, who feel like they are in a tight-knit little community together. My two have bloomed under the care they have received/are receiving at Small World and are becoming just the sort of people I would have hoped-- competent, confident, and caring-- in part due to the environment Miss Wood provides. Children of different backgrounds attend this school, and I really appreciate that my children have been able to be in a place where they work every day with people who are in some way different from them (ethnicity, religion, etc.).
The Canton Ballet brings in a teacher to do a dance class once per week with the children. Field trips have included the local apple orchard, the Palace Theater (to see The Nutcracker), Player's Guild productions (like Winnie the Pooh), and the Canton Symphony's kinder concert.
And, of course, the Montessori materials are wonderful in helping the children learn about the world (I especially love the sensorial and math materials they use) and the Montessori method really encourages them to develop the ability to learn on their own and to work well with others, which is probably why children who have been part of this kind of classroom have done so well in life later on.
