School Notes
- For 60 years, St. Francis Episcopal Day School has been nurturing children from 18 months to eighth grade in an environment that emphasizes both scholastic excellence and emotional growth. The school combines rigorous academics and thoughtful religious instruction with competitive athletics, superb fine arts, advanced technological instruction, and compassionate service programs to create a truly inspired education. St. Francis’ offerings are guided by the school’s four cornerstones—faith, scholarship, courage and honor—and students are encouraged to develop moral integrity and character, unique intellectual and physical capacities, an appreciation for and ability to engage in creative expression, and a respect for all people and for our diverse society. Because children’s educational needs grow and change throughout their elementary and middle school years, St. Francis’ award-winning faculty members carefully craft each child’s classroom and curricular experience to meet individual learning needs and styles. Students are equipped to embrace an uncertain future through curriculum and programs that emphasize problem solving, logic and critical thinking. They also learn how to be “people for others,” incorporating passion for service and compassion for others into every aspect of their lives. St. Francis graduates are highly sought-after by area private and magnet high schools due to their solid academic preparation, extensive leadership training, and reputation for character and moral excellence. In fact, 98 percent of our graduates are accepted into their college-preparatory high school of choice. Accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest and the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools, St. Francis enjoys an enrollment of more than 800 students and membership in nearly 20 associations, including the National Association of Independent Schools and Houston Area Independent Schools. In addition, the St. Francis faculty includes three Crystal Award winners for teaching excellence, as well as a recipient of the 2008 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Located at 335 Piney Point Road on 15.5 wooded acres near the Memorial area of Houston, the St. Francis campus includes four acres of meticulously groomed playing fields; a state-of-the-art Fine Arts Center that seats up to 600; an outdoor activity center; an outdoor nature-exploration classroom; and a 7,000-square-foot library and technology center. The school recently purchased 23.3 additional acres to facilitate expansion of its Primary School and athletics programs. The new South Campus is currently under development. To learn more about St. Francis and to schedule a visit, please call our Admissions Office at 713-458-6112 or 713-458-6117.
