The Hawthorn School

The Hawthorn School offers a distinctive education rooted in the classical liberal arts tradition, where young men and women are formed intellectually, morally, and spiritually.
With small class sizes and a strong teacher-mentor model, students are encouraged to pursue academic excellence, leadership, and personal growth in a nurturing and joyful environment.
The Hawthorn School combines rigorous academics with character education, faith-based values, and a deep appreciation for beauty and culture.
Our classes are co-ed through 1st grade, and then single gender for second grade onwards.
Our all-boys and all-girls settings foster confidence, purpose, and lifelong friendships.
Our preschool is taught in the Montessori method. From Latin and logic to fine arts and service, every element of our curriculum is designed to form thoughtful, articulate, and compassionate young men and women.

School Notes

  • The Hawthorn School
  • Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8
  • Where childhood is honored, character is formed, and learning is a joy.
  • At The Hawthorn School, we offer more than an education-we offer a formation for life. Rooted in the classical tradition and attentive to the needs of the whole child, Hawthorn is a school where children grow in truth, virtue, and wonder.
  • A Place to Be Known and To Belong
  • Hawthorn welcomes boys and girls in a co-educational environment through Grade 1, where young children play, explore, and learn together in a nurturing and joyful setting. From Grade 2 onward, students learn in single-gender programs, with separate wings of the school designed to meet the unique needs of boys and girls during their formative years. This structure allows us to support each student's intellectual, emotional, and spiritual development in age-appropriate and deeply personal ways.
  • Classical, Beautiful, Timeless
  • We believe that education should not rush, distract, or entertain-it should form. At Hawthorn, students are immersed in the great works of Western civilization: timeless literature, heroic biographies, sacred music, and the principles of logic and virtue.
  • They are given the gift of a slower pace, deeper reading, and meaningful conversation. Learning is not digitized or diluted. It is living, communal, and joyful. Whether reciting poetry, discovering patterns in nature, diagramming a sentence, or painting with watercolors, our students are immersed in what is beautiful and lasting.
  • Childhood Rooted in Wonder
  • Childhood is not something to be pushed through at Hawthorn-it is something to be cherished. Our students grow up surrounded by woods, gardens, and outdoor spaces that invite play, stillness, and observation. They build forts under trees, write nature journals, and marvel at the changing seasons.
  • The natural world is not a break from learning-it is part of it. We offer our students the kind of childhood that has always led to flourishing: one filled with books, beauty, fresh air, friendship, and time to think.
  • Forming the Whole Person
  • At the heart of our mission is the desire to form the whole person-not just the student. We aim to cultivate habits of thought and heart: attention, gratitude, responsibility, and joy.
  • Our students are expected to speak with courtesy, act with integrity, and live with purpose. Through strong parent partnerships, daily routines of prayer and reflection, and a school culture grounded in respect, we help children grow into young men and women of character-ready not just for high school, but for a good life. The Hawthorn School is a place apart-a school where children can be children, learning can be deep, and life can be full of meaning.
  • For families seeking a true alternative to rushed, utilitarian education, Hawthorn offers a return to something timeless, true, and deeply human. Come see what education looks like when it honors childhood, cherishes beauty, and aims at wisdom.
