Beyond core coursework, students explore rotating enrichment opportunities such as coding, creative writing and personal finance.
Through community service days, leadership opportunities and brotherhood retreats, students learn to support one another, make choices that matter and do the right thing even when it's hard.
Starting in 7th grade, students receive personalized support to gain admission to their best-fit high schools. From school visits and test prep to mock interviews and application guidance, GJA equips graduates to thrive in top independent, parochial, boarding and competitive public high schools.

As a teacher, I decided a long time ago to only pursue educational opportunities at school's with a clear mission to lift up all students, particularly those young people who don't often have access to the same opportunities as others their age. George Jackson Academy is one of those schools, and so much more. It is a place that understands that EQ is of equal value to IQ, and allows teachable moments to happen amidst the rigor of the normal curriculum. My day is made every single time one of our young scholars greets me with a smile in the hallway and I have the chance to check in with them on life things. The small size means I can interact with the boys at the heart level, checking in on joys and concerns and letting them know that I am here for them not only as their teacher, but as an adult they can trust. The small size also gives me the opportunity to introduce exciting concepts and do thought provoking hands-on activities in our well-equipped science lab. It is a joy to be part of a community that works together every day to support the whole child in every precious boy that chooses to make GJA part of their academic journey.

Currently a junior in high school and can still say that I miss old times in GJA. The teachers were very helpful and cared for the students, and I made a lot of friends that I still talk to today. I wouldn't want to go to any other middle school because of the great memories I've made at GJA.

One: GJA gives its students challenging academic tasks not only to prepare them for future education but also to give them opportunities for growth. Two: GJA gives importance to brotherhood, cooperation, and service through extracurricular activities, various school gatherings, and community service events.Three: GJA promptly informs the parents/guardians regarding important information, thus making us responsible stakeholders and integral parts of the community. George Jackson Academy truly continues to provide an opportunity for a holistic formation of all the students! Thank you, GJA!

My son started at GJA in 6th grade, he's now an 8th grader. The school is one of the best decisions made for his education journey. His experience has been truly transformative. The school challenges students academically but also cares about their emotional well-being. They are also challenged to develop other skills outside of the classroom, with support every step of the way. GJA is a small community, a home away from, students know each other, and they help each other out. The school has one of the best high school placement programs in the city, graduating students go on to attend some of the best private and public schools around NYC. Most important of all, my son loves the community, teachers, and students.

As a proud GJA parent, excellence is the first word that comes to mind. GJA does ordinary things extraordinarily well. When it comes to developing the mind of a young scholar, GJA is an extension of home. They reinforce the same values and principles parents hope their children utilize all day long. Now, imagine your sons in an environment that challenges them intellectually, nurtures and protects their minds, and reinforces accountability...THAT IS GJA! GJA exposes your sons to the world and cultures around them, making them understand the importance of brotherhood and giving back to the community around them. At GJA, progress is valued over perfection. Each student is an individual, yet part of the brotherhood. Our boys understand that when they have done enough, they can do more and this is what makes our boys stand out. GJA's practice of a growth mindset prepares students for a lifetime of learning and success. Year after year, we see past students return to share how GJA has changed the trajectory of their lives. We certainly can attest to this. Our son who attended GJA since the 4th grade is currently a 9th grader boarder at Kent School, CT, all thanks to the support and preparation of their high school placement program. When our now 7th grader was looking for middle schools last, GJA was a no-brainer. Trust is the reason we chose GJA a second time. Trust means we are confident in the partnership we receive at GJA. We love the fact that every student is recognized and because of the small community, students and administrators alike don't get lost in the shuffle. The care and love received from the school administrators and their peers make school a pleasure. As parents, we feel we have earned and are still earning our GJA dividends through the transformation of our children going in as little boys and emerging as outstanding young men. Needless to say, as parents, it's always a pleasure communicating with GJA administrators. Finally, we all want an environment where our children have a seat at the table, have a voice, and have that voice heard. GJA creates this type of inclusive space. It's certainly an extension of home because it's not only an educational center but a place of collaboration, fun, respect, and most importantly safe.

As a parent of an alumni, I must say that GJA has definitely graduated a young man of character! My son enrolled as a 4th grader, prior to the transition from elementary to middle school, and it was a journey. However, he became more independent and was able to try a variety of activities without the social pressures of a coed environment. As a high school freshman, he is academically prepared, and confident, knows how to build a brotherhood, and understands the importance of GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY. I am forever grateful for the skills and lessons he learned inside and outside of the classroom. A big thanks to the faculty and staff for their continued support!

I couldn't be more happier that our son had the opportunity to attend George Jackson Academy! It is a wonderful school and they work hard to ensure the students are well prepared for high school and life. My son confirmed my thoughts when he expressed how grateful he was to attend George Jackson. His exact words were " Mom ,I'm so glad I went to GJA, it saved me." He told me this about 2 weeks after starting high school. Don't miss out on an opportunity to attend such a great school with caring teachers and staff! Thank you GJA!

GJA is a great school. The staff members are very professional and genuinely care about the well-being and overall success of their students. The school has high ethical and academic standards with a robust curriculum that prepare students for the best high schools in the country. My son graduated from GJA and is currently attending the Frederick Gunn School in Connecticut. I will always recommend GJA to families. GJA is a place where students are prepared to thrive in life.

GJA is an amazing place. Our two boys attended and both went on to great high schools. Above all, the school's leadership and faculty are exceptionally competent and caring, completely devoted to the students. Thanks to them, GJA helps the students develop into mature, intelligent, and caring young adults. I cannot say enough good things about GJA - it transforms kids' lives!

My son Reece attended GJA since 4th Grade. George Jackson Academy is the best thing that has happened to our family. The present and past Teachers, Principals, and Administrative Staff are absolutely the best, they went above and beyond for my son and his peers. We are forever indebted to George Jackson Academy. Academically the boys are very smart and intelligent, and morally they are and will become decent citizens. Thank your GJA............

I am currently a parent and teacher at GJA. The teachers and administrators at this school are dedicated to helping each and every student discover their potential while exploring a multitude of enriching experiences in a highly supportive, and caring environment. High standards, respect, and brotherhood transcend the school building as graduating students make their way into some of the most sought-after high schools in the country. The boys refer to one another as brothers, and they look after each other as such. GJA is an all-inclusive, welcoming environment. As a parent, I know there are other choices, and I can attest to the fact that none compares to GJA. Come take a look, see for yourself. Our boys are amazing!

Great school, I'm currently in the 7th grade, and this school has made me feel like I was noticed, before GJA, I was in a huge public school, and nobody noticed me except for some friends of mine. However, at GJA, it feels like I can talk to people comfortably because I know them, and they know me. Thank you.

I graduated from GJA in 2015, and many of my classmates agree with me when I say, going to GJA was one of the best things that happened to us. It was so great, my parents even sent my sister to De La Salle. Of course the school was completely different 5 years ago with different teachers and pre-renovation. But even after visiting last year, the spirit remains the same. GJA definitely prepared me for high school, and after sending so many of us to renowned schools in the country, it's safe to say it's a place everyone should consider. As I continue my sophomore year at Howard University, the lifelong friends I made at GJA remain some of my closest friends and role models. The love we all have for GJA, in addition to the gratitude is everlasting!

My son is new to the school, he started this school year (20-21). The staff are amazing, friendly, and have high expectations of the boys. The rigorous academic curriculum is enriching and engaging. It have the boys always thinking outside the box. The teachers are not only teaching academics but preparing the students for the real world. My son is enjoying his time here and I couldn't be more happier about the decision we made about sending him to George Jackson Academy. I highly recommend sending your son here!

I never thought I would hear my boys say they miss being in the classroom! For them, I attribute this to the small size of the classes and the safe space of being around other boys of color in an academically rigorous program. They really support each other! Love the fact that they have a dress code, but not a uniform, and I like the Friday last period class which is an enrichment based on numerous interesting topics like financial planning, newspaper, gaming/coding, etc.

My son has been a scholar at George Jackson Academy for a few years. The staff and teachers maintain a high level of expectation and execute on the promise of an academically-rigorous, enriching curriculum. The building is well-kept and the administrators are committed to providing a supportive environment. I do wish the teachers more reflected the cultural and ethnic backgrounds of its scholars but other than that, it is an excellent school and they've exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend GJA to any parent with a high-achieving son.

I am in 7th grade ans have been going to GJA for 3 years now. The students here are really friendly as well as the teachers. Once a week a student from Juilliard comes and teaches us how to play different instruments. I would recommend that you let your child come and visit us and see I''d you like it.
