Identity & Mission: Founded in 1906, Girls
Preparatory School is an independent, all-girls college preparatory
day school in Chattanooga, Tennessee, serving students in grades
612. Our mission centers on inspiring young women to lead lives of
integrity and purpose through a supportive, girl-focused
environment.
Academic Approach: We delivera
learner-centered, interdisciplinary curriculum tailored
specifically to how girls learn best. Students engage in rigorous
academics-including Advanced Placement (AP) courses-while shaping
their own schedules and learning paths across various
subjects.
Signature Experiences & Extracurriculars: We
emphasizea "whole-girl" approach to education by integrating
unique offerings such as Winterim (an immersive week of
experiential learning), GOLE (Girls Outdoor Leadership Education),
robust athletics, and fine and performing arts-including
Terpsichord, the state's first high school modern dance
company.
Sisterhood &Traditions: We
fostera tight-knit community anchored bytraditions that
build confidence and lifelong friendships. Traditions include the
Cat-Rat mentorship program (pairingseniors with incoming
sixth graders), Senior Chapel Talks, class retreats, and our annual
May Day celebration.
Coordinate Partnership with The McCallie
School: While remaining dedicated to a single-sex learning
environment, we maintaina strong coordinate partnership with
our brother school, The McCallie School (an all-boys private
school). This collaboration provides girls with coed social
activities, joint arts performances, and leadership councils.
