If you are looking for an authentic Montessori education for your children at a smaller school with a family/community centered atmosphere where the guides and head of school are skilled, caring, devoted educators - this is your school. We receive almost daily "check-ins" from our children's guides and access to "Transparent Classroom" where pictures, evaluations, updates and guide/student information are readily accessible. HMS was the sponsor school for the national "Montessorians for Social Justice" conference in 2019 and upper ELs participate in the International Montessori Model United Nations Conference. My children have met a living relative of Kunta Kinte who visited Harmony this year and spoke to the children, as well as musicians, snake handlers, and even took a deep dive into the world of Harry Potter. The guides are always looking for creative ways to deliver lessons and expose the children to the natural world. The children spend time outdoors (rain or shine) every day in the garden, the playground or on walks with the guides on beautiful days. The guides and school staff are always responsive and helpful. The elementary guides use the "dibbles" testing to check where kiddos are academically which isn't always evident or straightforward in a self-directed educational model like the Montessori method.
