Transitioning our son to Renaissance Learner Academy (RLA) in San Jose was the moment the stars finally aligned for our family. RLA is a highly selective academy, where rigor is fueled by discovery rather than competition.For years, we tried typical schools that focus strictly on grades, standardized tests, and compliance over curiosity. RLA helped us make a necessary mindset shift, moving away from rigid schooling and toward true education by teaching kids how to learn while embracing who they are. The results have been nothing short of magical.Here is why this unorthodox school is a masterpiece: Rigor Without the Stress: RLA offers a strength-based, college-level curriculum. There are no AP classes, but the depth of learning is incredible, and the level of academic rigor is fully reflected on their transcripts. For the first time ever, my son told me, "I finally feel like I learned something at school this year." Joyful, Hands-On Learning: Every single lesson is project-based and hands-on. Students choose and direct many of their own projects, and the final products will blow your mind. Coming into RLA, my son had issues with doing art. Now, he genuinely looks forward to it and has completely shifted his mindset away from perfectionism. Built-In College & Life Prep: College advising is woven into the fabric of the school, and most, if not all, graduates get into their first-choice college. The "College of Life" curriculum explicitly teaches crucial real-world skills such as college searches, interview prep, and opening bank accounts. If you''ve ever stressed about how your child will survive after leaving home, this school provides immediate relief. A Close-Knit, Quirky Community: Class sizes are small by design because RLA values the quality of interactions over quantity. The community is full of humor, harmless antics, and deep mutual reliance. My son reflected, "I finally feel like I met people who are just like me." Unpredictable, Joyful Traditions: RLA hosts beautifully designed community showcase events throughout the year. One favorite tradition is the student-choice awards. Classmates created the "Tin Man Award" for my son, gently teasing that while he can come off as a bit robotic, he has a heart. He absolutely loved it. An Inspiring Campus Layout: The campus layout is tremendous, providing an inviting, dynamic setting that perfectly balances togetherness with quiet separation. It organically lends itself to the discussion and collaboration the teachers intend, and it features a well-stocked science lab with state-of-the-art equipment to fully bring their hands-on projects to life. Teachers Who Truly "Get It": The faculty possesses brilliant insight into the stages these students go through. They provide a warm, understanding environment that fosters remarkable psychological growth.Before RLA, school was an exhausting battle. In the last two months of this school year, my son was literally jogging to the front door every morning. He couldn''t wait to get back, and he even woke up on a few weekends disappointed that it wasn''t a school day!If you know you have an amazing, uncommonly smart kid who needs a different learning environment, RLA is the sanctuary you are looking for.

Our son has thrived at RLA, formerly MCP. Jay and his staff are amazing teachers. There is never a missed opportunity for tying a topic into students` learning, making this a truly holistic, comprehensive education. Our son commutes 45-60 minutes to and from school, and it`s worth it! Our son has been nurtured and mentored from someone who would barely leave his room, into a fine young adult, with strong ethics, diverse friends, and a willingness to work hard in pursuing excellence. We heartily recommend RLA.

Our son was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. He is thriving and learning at a phenomenal rate. They really are college preparatory. Had my son not attended MCP, he would mostly likely received a high school certificate not a diploma. He is learning skills to succeed in college and every day life. Thank you MCP.
