Non-fiction reading and writing is emphasized to prepare students for the challenges they will face in the real world.
Students actively engage in collaborative small groups to develop problem solving skills, conflict resolution strategies, and their sense of independence.
Instilling Franciscan values is a cornerstone of St. Stephen School’s curriculum. Students engage in service projects, such as making sandwiches for the Midnight Run program to serve those in need.
In the St. Stephen School rooftop garden, students help grow vegetables and other edible plants. This interactive learning space allows science to come alive as students engage in planting, measuring, caring for, and ultimately harvesting lettuce, broccoli, herbs, and much more.
Student learning is centered around real life problems and project based learning to empower students. Learning is hands-on and minds-on.
St. Stephen students in grade 4-8 use iPads in mathematics class in order to manipulate numbers and figures and build conceptual understanding. At all ages, technology is integrated into the curriculum to teach 21st century skills alongside core curriculum.
Working in partnership with various New York City organizations supports the school’s mission of developing each student holistically. Students are able to engage in activities such as fencing, violin, acting classes, robotics, yoga, and sports clinics.
St. Stephen School welcomes and encourages a diverse and engaged parent and family community. Working in partnership with the Parents Association, St. Stephen School provides numerous opportunities to meet the needs of our diverse parent body.
